What are dermal fillers used for?
Dermal Fillers are used to restore facial volume, treat skin depressions, fine lines, facial contouring, enhancement of lips and improvements of skin quality.
What is a dermal filler?
Dermal filler’s are a non-animal, hyalauronic acid-based (sugar based) non-permanent transparent gel, which is injected into specific areas to restore lost volume and hydration that diminishes as we age. It is infused with lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment.
Which areas can we treat with dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers can be used to rejuvenate problem areas from smile lines (lines from the nose to the corner of the mouth), Marionette lines (lines that form below the corners of the mouth), perioral lines (smokers lines) and to restore volume and definition to the lips.
Dermal fillers can also be used for facial volumisation of the cheeks and chin to restore lost volume, or contour the jawline for definition.
How long does the treatment take and last?
Treatment takes around 30 minutes to 1 hour and lasts approximately 12 - 24 months. A touch up session may be recommended after the first session to increase and maximise the results.
Are there any side effects when being treated with a dermal filler?
After injection you may have inflammatory skin reactions (such as redness, swelling, rash) and pain on application of pressure. Bruising, lumps or nodules that may last up to a week. Other rare side effects will be discussed in more detail with your practitioner.
What is the aftercare advice after being treated with a dermal filler?
After treatment, please avoid extreme facial expressions, alcohol consumption and applying makeup for 12 hours. Please avoid extreme sun exposure, UV light, temperatures below 0c, saunas and steam rooms for 2 weeks after treatment. It is advisable to avoid exercise for up to 24 hours and to avoid massaging the treated area.
